All Lakeland Runners Club (LRC) group runs, training programs, and races are currently suspended, but our enthusiasm for our sport hasn’t dimmed.
The LRC will always place the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, and the well-being of our community at the forefront. Because of current CDC health guidelines, the club announces the following changes to their events for 2020.
The Mayfaire 5k moves from Saturday, May 9 at 7:00 PM to Saturday, September 12 at 7:00 AM. This is the first time in 41 years the race will not be held in May. The LRC’s 5k Training Program has been scheduled to resume on July 11. Participants should expect new safety measures and requirements when training and racing are able to resume.
The Summer Sunrise Watermelon Series scheduled for June 13, July 11 and August 8 has been canceled. For 24 years the Lakeland Runners Club (LRC) has put on the Summer Sunrise Watermelon Series to motivate the local running community to stay active during the hot summer months in preparation for fall racing. In its place, the LRC launched the Summer Miles for Scholarships Community Challenge to encourage and support one another through the summer in the absence of racing. The Challenge will accept donations for the annual scholarship fund administered through the Polk Education Foundation. The LRC has awarded $78,500 in scholarships since 2011 with proceeds from the summer series. Donations to the Summer Miles for Scholarships Community Challenge are tax-deductible, and 100% of the money raised will go toward scholarships or kidsPACK.
The Aching Quad Challenges moves from Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 to Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. Race times have been adjusted for daylight hours.
There are no schedule changes for the Lake to Lake 10k scheduled for November 7.

We are anxious to resume our community activities that support our mission to promote running and walking for people of all ages and abilities by bringing people together to run, to eat and drink, and to share the joys of our race locations. We share any disappointment with events that have been rescheduled or canceled but remain optimistic that the future of our sport and our community is bright.
