Where to Run in Lakeland

Lakeland is the largest city along Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando.  Fittingly, the dominant feature in Lakeland is the city’s many lakes, including 38 that are named and many others that are not. The centerpiece is Lake Hollingsworth, the city’s largest lake, surround by a 2.85-mile multi-use trail. The lake’s central location and picturesque atmosphere results in it being used by over 2,000 people a day. Water fountains are frequently located along the city’s 20+ miles of pedestrian networks along with community restrooms.

Serving Lakeland and the Polk County Running Community Since 1974.

Our Purpose:
Our mission is to promote running and fitness for runners of all ages and abilities in the community through fellowship, education and formal & informal running events.  We offer tests of competition and personal fitness with our annual races.  Over 200 member-volunteers assist to produce six 5ks in Lakeland and the oldest continual 10k in Polk County, along with a one-mile and two-mile road race and a 5-mile trail run.

We are a running community that welcomes all ages, all abilities, and distances to join us. The club hosts free weekly community group runs, training programs for youth and beginners, and a monthly member meeting.

Come run, jog, run/walk, or walk with us – moving forward is what counts.  Our weekly runs, training groups and most events are stroller friendly, see individual events for any restrictions.

Respect for Participants:
The Lakeland Runners Club respects the fundamental rights, dignity, and worth of all participants. We are aware of cultural, individual, and role differences, including those due to age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, and socioeconomic status. The LRC will not knowingly participate in or condone unfair discriminatory practices.

Our History:
The club was founded in 1974 as the Lakeland Family YMCA Runners Club. In 1990, the club separated from the YMCA and joined the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA).  In 1997, the club incorporated as a non-for-profit corporation in Florida as the Lakeland Runners Club, Inc.  The LRC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit subordinate organization of the RRCA.
