The Governor of Florida has issued Executive Order 20-91. The order goes into effect 12:01 a.m. on April 3, 2020.

Essential activities in Section 3, part A- ii include running and walking.

However, per section 3, part C “A social gathering in a public space is not an essential activity. Local jurisdictions shall ensure that groups of people greater than ten are not permitted to congregate in any public space.”

Executive Order 20-91

The Executive order shall supersede any conflicting official action or order issued by local officials in response to COVID-19.

At a Special-Called City Commission Meeting on April 1, it was decided to close all parks including walking trails in order to minimize the impacts of the coronavirus and to follow the Governor’s Executive Order. In addition to parks and paths already closed, closures will include the very popular Lake Hollingsworth Trail, Lake Mirror, and Lake Morton.

Polk County and Florida State trails closed as of March 23 remain closed.

Our nonprofit mission is to promote running and walking for people of all abilities. We encourage you to go alone and go from home. Lakeland has a very strong, very supportive running community. Let’s stay committed to supporting each other and our community.
