Summer Sunrise Watermelon 5K
#VolunteersHelpUsRun
We need help making the July and August 5ks as fabulous as June. The combined effort of 60+ volunteers make our events look effortless and make each 5k safe, fun, and fantastic! LRC races rock because of the fabulous people that #MakeItHappen.

Course Monitors – 6:00 to 8:00/9:00 AM [7 volunteers]. Safety First! Course monitors help keep runners safe and on the right course. Best place to cheer and support the race.
Water Stop – 6:00 – 8:00 AM [4 volunteers] This key role is not just about providing hydration support- but moral support and excitement!
Watermelon Crew 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM- [4 volunteers] If you want to sleep in a little (only runners call 6:30 sleeping in
) and be a part of all the post-race happiness, this is the spot for you.
🏁 Finish Line 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM [6 volunteers] Help the happy finishers make their way to water and watermelon and NOT out into the active traffic lanes. You’ll help keep the coolers stocked with bottled water. When the sweeper crosses the finish line, you’ll help break it all down so Lake Hollingsworth Dr and the parking lot can be reopened.
The June Watermelon 5k was a tremendous success – two more to go!
As an all-volunteer organization, LRC events are possible due to the passion and enthusiasm for our sport and our mission to promote running and fitness in our community.
66 incredible volunteers managed registration, answered hundreds of questions, secured 20 streets, cut 500+ pounds of watermelon, served 170 gallons of water, picked up and put down a literal ton of cones twice, cheered, guided and showcased the LRC and Lakeland beautifully.
The June 5k had 985 entries. 599 of the runners were running their first Watermelon Series, and 105 runners said the June race was first 5k! The club is also well on the way toward the goal of raising $10,000 for the 2022 scholarship fund.
