The middle school program is in session June through October - we look forward to seeing you June 2018.

The LRC Middle School Program  is open to any rising 5th- 8th grader, or alumni of the LRC Lightning team interested in participating in cross country or any middle school student who would simply like to build their endurance.

Parents are encouraged to participate in the workouts or use the time to complete their own workout at the location.  Parents do not have to be LRC members for their children to run. However, the Lakeland Runners Club does offer student and family memberships at very reasonable costs.

Come prepared to run
Come dressed in shorts, t-shirt, and running shoes - its hot, so no long sleeves or long pants. Bring a filled water bottle. A waiver/permission form must be completed by a parent or legal guardian prior to running.

Where will the group meet?
The LRC middle school program will run from a variety of locations, the location for each week will be posted in the Lakeland Runners Club facebook group.  We may meet at Dobbins Park, Holloway Park, Panther Point Trail, Fletcher Park at Lake Bonny, Lake Hollingsworth, Three Parks Trail, Lakeland High School Track or other location near Lakeland.

Check the LRC Facebook group weekly about the meeting location and weather cancellations.  See that here.

Is previous running experience necessary?
No. Anyone at any level is invited to join us.  The goal is for each individual to improve their fitness and ability.

What time does practice start?
The start time for Tuesday group runs is 6 pm, runs should last about an hour.

How many weeks is the Middle School program?
We will meet beginning on Tuesday, June 13 and will meet most every Tuesday through October. Those who choose to participate on the LRC Lightning cross country team will have additional practices on Thursday and Saturday when cross country season begins in August.  There is a fee to participate on the cross country team.

Is attendance mandatory?
The Tuesday summer workouts are voluntary. Feel free to attend as much or as little as you want.

The LRC Lightning is a cross country team open to all students in 5th to 8th grade.  The program prepares runners to race middle school cross country 3k distance.  Cross Country practice begins in August per the FSHAA guidelines.
The team participates in the Tuesday night middle school practice and has two additional practices each week, Thursday evening and Saturday morning.  Location for these practices varies.  The team runs 4 to 5 meets from August to October.  These meets are held Friday evenings or Saturday mornings.

There is a fee (calculated each season) to cover the cost of uniforms and meet registrations.  To be eligible, runners must join the Lakeland Runners Club.
